  • Don't Let Your EVERYTHING OUTDOOR Soak You

Do you want to reduce your water bill? A single-family home can use up to 60% of its water consumption for outdoor irrigation. It is estimated that 10-20% of this irrigation water is wasted. Everything Outdoor can help you to minimize the amount of water wasted and help with the water saving strategies described below.

  • Xeriscaping

Xeriscaping is landscaping that reduces or eliminates the need for supplemental water from irrigation, and can actually be a huge cost-saving factor for both residential and commercial property owners. Everything Outdoor can design and install an EVERYTHING OUTDOOR using xeriscaping for you that conserves water while still looking beautiful. There are many plants that will grow well in the Houston area without requiring much more water than what we receive in rainfall.

When designing a landscape for low-water usage, we can help to:
    • Select trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials and annuals that naturally grow together and group them by water needs.
    • Increase curb appeal using minimal turf as green lawns tend to need a lot of water. There are countless combinations of ground covers, shrubs, perennials, and hardscapes (flagstone, bullrock and black star gravel) that can be used instead of grass in spectacular combinations.
    • Choose drought-tolerant plants developed for the Houston area -Eastern purple coneflower, Black-eyed susan, Southern wax myrtle, Pride of Houston youpon holly, and Texas lantana.

When installing your new landscape, Everything Outdoor always:

    • Improves the soil. Most soil in the Houston area is heavy clay and organic matter needs to be added ("amended") to improve its
condition by introducing nutrients which plants need and allowing the soil to absorb more water.
    • Finishes with a layer of mulch to lock in moisture, regulate temperature and suppress weed growth.
  • Irrigation

If you currently have an irrigation system, Everything Outdoor can help you conserve water by:

    • Adjusting the system so that it waters the zones based on the plants' water needs and the season.
    • Installing a weather-based SMART irrigation controller. Major advances in controller technology have occurred in recent years. New "Smart Controllers," also known as Weather Based or ET Irrigation Controllers, schedule irrigation according to actual water needs of plants by using information such as weather, climate, plant type and the soil type of your landscape. Smart controllers take much of the guess work out of programming a traditional controller and have been shown to save about 20% on irrigation water use.
    • Installing a rain sensor if your irrigation controller does not have one built in.
    • Inspecting the sprinkler heads to make sure that they are working properly.
    • Adjusting the sprinkler heads so that they are spraying on the correct plants and not paved surfaces or buildings.
  • Rainwater Collection

Rainwater is best for landscapes because it is free of salts, calcium, chlorine and other minerals that harm root growth. If you are considering a rain water cistern to benefit your plants or to decrease your water usage, Everything Outdoor can design the specifications for such a collection system.
